Finland Checking In, For Reals

4 days in country so far and I am digging it. Giving pretty regular updates on my twitter feed and you should definitely check that out if you are interested.

Welcome To Finland

Posting this fast before work, more to come..... The King and I (Note: Great title. Write musical) were on Finnish soil last night as guests of the Consul General in Los Angeles.

Wonderful food, captivating guests and yes, the traditional Finnish sauna were all part of the evening.

First photo: Dave took this of me in the sauna. That's a birch branch on my lap. One beats oneself on the back and arms with it in the 120 degree heat to "ward off evil spirits," we were told. Good times. Oh, and that is a naked Finn immediately to my right in this pic.

In Dave's defense, it was steamy in there, tough to take a picture, and no one wants to see me nearly naked anyway.

After Breakfast With Incubus now. I am at LAX waiting for a ride home. Here's a photo of our wonderful hosts from last night. Left to right is Hannah, me, Kirsti and Dave. Kirsti is the Consul General of Finland and I found out last night that thanks to her diplomatic immunity she could have me killed on the spot and never be arrested. Hanna is a press and cultural affairs officer for the Consulate and the Kevin & Bean listener who made the invitation in the first place. She rocks.

And finally, the rest of the dinner party, several of whom are visiting America right now on their Summer vacations from Finland. We had a delicious traditional meal, including a salmon main course. And if you see the King, ask him for some of that licorice-flavored Vodka they gave us as a parting gift. It was a terrific evening and I thank each and every one of them for their kindness and hospitality. I still think the sauna should be co-ed though. I'm just sayin.'

I Suck

I've been neglecting this little piece of internet real estate lately because, well, I have to confess I found someone else. Seems I've been getting my thoughts out to the world through Twitter more lately so I haven't been up in here as much. This time it really isn't you, it's me.

Been busy though. In the Bad Place right now for a couple of days. Tonight The King of Mexico and I are guests at the Finnish Consulate here in L.A. and I have no idea what to expect except that I heard talk of vodka and saunas at one point while speaking with our host on the show. They got in touch with me because I am finally taking that trip to Helskinki I've been talking about for years. I leave Sunday and yes, before you email me, my passport is current, unlike last year. Wiseass.

Tomorrow morning we will be doing our Breakfast with Incubus and you can hear it live starting at about 8:00 a.m. Check the front page of KROQ.com in the morning first though as there is talk of streaming video of the event too.

Been a busy spring up in Seattle too as both Doug The Slug and Kat Corbett have come to visit me, well, the puppies really. They are both great people and genuinely nice.
